Finding a public restroom in Seoul

Search for 화장실 near your current position, then check the entrance and access conditions. A map marker tells you where to investigate, not whether a door is open right now.

This guide covers finding a facility in Seoul. It does not certify opening hours, cleanliness or accessibility at any location.

Use the search term that helps

Seoul's official restroom-location page points readers to Smart Seoul Map's public-restroom information and to searching 화장실 in map services including NAVER. The page is in Korean and was updated in July 2025. Open Seoul's location guidance.

In your map app, check that the search is centred on where you are, especially if you previously searched a different neighbourhood. Open a result and inspect the building, street entrance and any opening information. Set up NAVER Map if you have not already done so.

Check the route to the door

Before crossing a large road or entering a station, ask yourself whether the facility is on the accessible side of the building or gates. A short straight-line distance is not always a short walk.

For a place inside a staffed building, ask which floor it is on and whether visitors may use it. For a locked door, ask staff; a nearby map listing should not be interpreted as permission to enter a private area.

Ask about the features you need

If you need step-free access, a changing table or a larger cubicle, ask about that feature specifically. A general restroom symbol does not answer those questions. The phrase table below helps you ask without needing to explain a complete itinerary.

When you find a convenient facility, note it for the route back. For a longer outing, identify a second option before the need becomes urgent. This is a planning suggestion, not a claim that either location will remain open.
